The goal of our Anti-Aging program is simple: maintain health and youthfulness throughout your life. This means be in the best of health – mentally and physically. Exercise, stretch, manage your diet, and maintain a strong immune system. Exude energy like someone who is much younger. Be happy. Enjoy life.

Contributors to aging include:

Nutrient Deficiency

Mitochondrial Aging and reduced ATP energy production

Vascular, Heart, Kidney, Brain, and Bone Aging

Stress and Inflammation

Sleep, CNS, and Brain Aging

Environmental Contaminants

Immune Weakness

Focus on your Body Systems

Following is a discussion of how to mitigate these vectors of aging, commonly known as anti-aging. Many micronutrients can be obtained from a healthy diet and environment.  We know that even the best diets have episodic micronutrient shortfalls.  All micronutrients can be used with exercise, stretching, and relaxation techniques for long term health.

Nutrient Deficiency

Jean Carper in Stop Aging Now! demonstrates that aging is actually a monumental, progressive deficiency disease. It begins to appear in adulthood, picks up in middle age and takes a giant leap after age fifty. She says you can prevent and correct aging to an amazing extent by taking antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.

Ms. Carper asks “if there was a magic potion to preserve youth, who wouldn’t take it?” She answers her rhetorical question by saying “the prospect of youth potions is no longer remote. In fact, such awesome agents are here now. The staggering truth is that scientists have already identified scores of substances that strike at the very heart of aging by slowing down and even reversing the deterioration that we now view as normal aging. And although you may not realize it, you have wide access to virtually all these anti-aging potions.”

Read Jean Carper’s lively and compelling, well-researched book, published in 1995, but still prophetic in its insights.

Professor Ames – Episodic nutrient deficiency, longevity nutrients

Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bruce Ames, PhD, has spent the last 20 years of his illustrious 60-year career studying the effects of micronutrients on the body.  He is one of the 10 most published researchers in all fields, with more than 400 articles indexed in the U.S. National Institutes of Health Library of Medicine.  He is a friend and he has spoken on behalf of our company at medical conferences such as the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M).  Professor Ames is a rock star in the industry.  By hosting Bruce and his wife Professor Giovanna Ames at the A4M conferences I got to know the founders of the conference Dr. Robert Goldman and Dr. Ron Klatz, who have taken an interest in our success.

Professor Ames’ Triage Theory of Aging holds that the body uses a highly-sophisticated selection process to divert scarce nutrients to functions of the body that require immediate nutrients to sustain life (such as beating of the heart, brain function, breathing, liver support) at the expense of longer-term needs such as healthy DNA and RNA replication.  This “triage” occurs all the time.  It is most profound during episodic nutrient deficiency or long-term nutrient depletion.

Doctors cannot diagnose long-term nutrient deficiencies, which eventually present as diseases of aging such as cancer, heart, brain and other diseases, until the disease is well advanced.   Even then, the doctors do not know the cause and implicate inflammation, or just old age as the cause.  So modern medicine is unaware of the systemic, long-term damage that is slowly occurring as a result of either episodic or long-term nutrient deficiency.  There are a few nutrient deficiency diseases that can be diagnosed, such as scurvy, caused by a vitamin C deficiency.

The U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for vitamins and minerals is set by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.  However. it is based on short term needs of the body, not to maintain health as one ages.  So, taking 100% of the RDA of vitamins and minerals will keep you alive and keep you from getting diseases such as scurvy and osteoporosis, but it was not designed to keep you healthy long-term.

Dr. Ames highlights 30 critical nutrients and 10 longevity nutrients.  These are listed on our multivitamin page here _____.

Professor Ames most recent research identifies nutrients that he calls longevity nutrients.  These are nutrients where there is no obvious immediate disease that occurs with a deficiency, but there are long-term effects which hamper healthy aging.

At a recent medical conference, I had lunch with Bruce and Giovanna.  Just before lunch, they visited with me at our exhibit hall booth and reviewed some of our nutritional supplements.  Bruce and Giovanna were surprised and impressed that our award-winning Maximum Vitality multivitamin contained almost all of his recommendations for primary micronutrients plus almost all of his recommendations for longevity nutrients.  I was not surprised because I so honor his research that we closely follow his well-researched recommendations.

Dr Sinatra on Mitochondrial Energy

Cardiologist Stephen Sinatra MD is a well-known speaker at medical conferences and has written about 10 best selling books on various aspects of cardiovascular health.

He believes that one root cause of cardiovascular disease is damaged mitochondria and what he refers to as spilling ATP.  This means that the mitochondria does not effectively produce ATP, the bodies molecule of energy in the heart.  A lack of energy in the heart is often diagnosed as heart disease.  His recommendation is to provide the nutrients that support healthy mitochondria.  These nutrients include coenezymeQ10 (CoQ10), PQQ, carnitine from foods, especially animal proteins, anti-oxidants such as alpha- and r-lipoic acid that neutralize the oxidation that occurs with mitochondrial energy production.  This is why athletes need antioxidants prior to or following heavy exercise.

This theory of mitochondrial energy supporting organ and system function applies to all body systems.

He was fascinated with our E=MC2 Endurance Formula for this purpose, which includes coenzyme Q10, PQQ, Nitric Oxide (NO) enhancers, and L-Arginine.  You can get all these nutrients if you regularly (daily) eat organ meats (heart, liver, kidney), fatty fish, vegetables, fruit and legumes (CoQ10), 10-20 servings of kiwi, green pepper, tofu, natto (PQQ), Acacia bark, red spinach leaf salad, turkey, pork loin, dark meat chicken, pumpkin seeds, raw soybeans, or spirulina (L-Arginine).

We spoke at length at the Environmental Health Symposium, where Dr. Sinatra reviewed our Maximum Vitality multi while we were talking.  He said Maximum Vitality is the best multivitamin he has ever seen.  I gave him a couple bottles of Maximum Vitality.  He later sent me a jar of his new marinara sauce and a package of his gluten free pasta.  Being proud of his Italian heritage, he was eager to show off his new organic, high-vibrational Marinara Sauce and imported Italian red lentil pasta.  It’s available at Vervana.com.

Sinatra on Grounding Your Body

Many of the doctors at the medical conference thought Dr. Sinatra was crazy when he wrote a book titled Earthing.  Based on his knowledge of the electrical impulses that drive cardiovascular function, he believes that the body needs regular grounding exposure to the electrical fields in the Earth.  You can think of this as discharging static electricity build up to minimize stress and inflammation in the body.  You can ground yourself by walking barefoot outdoors, especially in the dirt or on the sand at the beach.  This feels immediately refreshing and has long-term benefits for your body’s electrical system and your mind, including better mood, clearer thinking, and even better memory.  Besides, it just feels refreshing.   The next time you’re gardening, playing outside, or just having a cool one, take off your usually synthetically soled and electrically insulated shoes and plant your feet on the earth.

Vascular, Heart, Kidney, Brain, and Bone Aging

As you get older, there is an aging process that naturally occurs in the bones and soft tissues such as blood vessels, the heart, kidneys, and the brain.  This is a process where calcium naturally circulating in the body accumulates in soft tissue rather than bone.  It is common, as older people, like when you are out of high school, spend less time playing in the sun and it becomes more difficult to absorb trace micronutrients from your diet, such as vitamin K2.  Note vitamin K2 is not plentiful in the diet and is available in small amounts in high-fat dairy products, egg yolk, liver and fermented foods, such as sauerkraut and natto, a unique tasting Japanese cheese.  For most people, these foods are not a regular part of their diet.

This calcium accrual process, just as with other processes, becomes less efficient as one ages.  So the question becomes, does older age lead to less micronutrient uptake through the gut leading to deterioration of the body, or does deterioration make it harder for the body to absorb and circulate the vast number of micronutrients and cofactors for all physiologic actions?

Whichever is the cause versus the effect, supplementing with these trace micronutrients, such as vitamin D3 and K2 will help the body target the build up of calcium in bones rather than soft tissue.  These micronutrients are in very sophisticated multivitamins, such as Maximum Vitality, and also as a target formula in Vascular Flex™.

Stress and Inflammation

Stress and inflammation are interrelated.  Both are a trigger, but not necessarily a cause of disease.  However, they cause the body to age faster.  Balancing both stress and inflammation are anti-aging tactics.

There are all kinds of stress reduction techniques, from earthing or grounding as discussed by Stephen Sinatra MD above, to meditation, to breathing exercises, to yoga, to physical exercise, to therapy, to massage, to cranial-sacral therapy, to eating anti-inflammatory foods and a balanced diet, to nutritional supplementation.

CBD helps balance the endocannabinoid system.  Thus CBD helps reduce mild, occasional stress, as well as mild, occasional pain.

A combination of Magnolia and Philodendron has been shown in multiple published scientific studies to reduce stress and anxiety.  It is the primary ingredient in our Stress Formula.

Excess glucose puts a stress on all your organs.  If this is the case, you should look at the benefits of managing normal blood glucose levels with Glucose Optimizer.

Sleep, CNS, and Brain Aging

A good night’s sleep is critical to healthy aging.

When you are asleep, your Glymphatic System is activated.  The glymphatic system clears waste material (such as from the production of energy in the mitochondria) and toxins from your Central Nervous System (CNS), which includes your brain.  Allowing waste to accumulate, in your brain, nervous system, or even in your house, such as by not flushing the toilet, leads to accelerated aging.

Along with studies that show that the Glymphatic system delivers nutrients to the CNS and brain, these studies suggest that it clears tau and a potentially toxic protein — beta-amyloid from the brain.

So one of the most important anti-aging tactics is to ensure a good nights sleep.  Exercise during the day, a clear mind when you go to sleep, avoiding exposure to blue light for an hour or more before sleep, as well as nutritional supplementation is helpful.

Herbal Siesta™ is reported to help about 80% of those who take it to fall asleep and stay asleep during the night.  Equilibrium! CBD will also help with occasional difficulty falling asleep.

Dr. Joe Pizzorno on Environmental Contaminants

Dr. Joseph Pizzorno’s latest book is The Toxin Solution: How Hidden Poisons in the Air, Water, Food, and Products We Use Are Destroying Our Health – And What We Can Do to Fix It.  Dr Pizzorno was the founder and 22-year president of Bastyr University, the country first and largest accredited university of natural medicine.

Based on years of research, his book identifies the environmental toxins that are most closely related to every disease.  He believes environmental toxins are primary contributors to these diseases.  Avoid and remove these toxins, and you have an ideal approach to a primary vector of Anti-Aging medicine.
